I've learned the value of barefoot running biomechanics at these slow-trot paces, however, I can't see an average body type training intervals or at race speed barefoot.

Every video I've seen is of a guy soft-footing it to reduce impact on the foot. This is great. However, it's not conducive to speed.

Zola Budd the vast majority of us aint.

Since we've grown up in shoes and been taught all shoes are good for us, it's easier to understand your feelings. I felt the same way too. But after a near-death accident, with a titanium hip and femur I was told I could never run again. That was hard to accept. One day out of frustration I took off my shoes and went barefoot. Something strange happened. I began to heal. Since then I've gone on to run 10-20 miles a day barefoot, and found that others have similar stories. It seems shoes have weakened our feet, but when we take them off and feel the ground, our incredibly strong, resilient feet, legs and bodies wake up, become more natural, and more like we used to be. This doesn't mean you have to run shoeless, or go around without shoes. But it means by feeling the ground, waking things up, and finding a more 'natural' stride, you become lighter, stronger, and fitter than ever...and more grounded. Hope this helps!
