Barefoot America Tour!

With the book, “Barefoot Running,” almost here, we’re starting to gear up for our 2010 summer book & clinic tour – Barefoot America!

Starting in April we’ll be hitting the roads, holding clinics and free talks in 168 different cities in 180 days. We’ll cover all 48 states plus 4 provinces in Canada, including cities totaling well over 170 million people.

Phew! This could be a little work, but fortunately it’s a labor of love. We can’t wait to help people learn more about barefoot running, safe & proper technique, do’s and don’ts, minimalist footwear, and more.  We also hope to dispel a few myths along the way and help runners rediscover the joy of running - healthy, happy and injury free.

Below you’ll find a map of our journey. We’ve broken the map up into four 6-week phases.

RunBare takes barefoot running education on the road, hitting 166 cities in 180 days.

RunBare takes barefoot running education on the road, hitting 166 cities in 180 days.

Phase 1Clockwise, Boulder, CO through the Southwest, up north to the Pacific Northwest & Canada, before diving back down through the Rockies.

Phase 2Boulder, CO to New York City, then heading south clockwise, down the coast to Florida, up around the Gulf Coast, and back up to New York.

Phase 3Up through the Northeast, into Canada and Quebec, before heading west. This is our most northerly route, heading through Montreal and Toronto, then down into upstate New York, across the Great Lakes, across Ohio to Michigan and Chicago, up through Wisconsin to Winnipeg, then diving south into the Midwest and back to Chicago.

Phase 4: Takes us on a giant loop from Illinois, heading clockwise down to Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama, before hooking back north to catch Arkansas, then heading back south through New Orleans and onto Houston, Corpus Christi, San Antonio and Austin, before heading back up to Oklahoma, Kansas, Saint Louis, and back to Chicago, just in time for the Chicago Marathon on October 10th.

Below you’ll find our Phase 1 timetable, including dates and locations. We’ll hold an average of two clinics per week (one weekday, one weekend) and 4 talks per week. If you’re a running store or club interested in hosting a talk or clinic, or getting involved in any way, please contact us at info@runbare.com. We’re booking events on a rolling 1-2 month window with the goal of reaching as many people as possible.

Coming soon, to a city near you! Click here for a list of dates and venues!

  1. Wish you would consider adding a stop in Oklahoma. There are lots of people in the Lawton/Ft. Sill area that would benefit from some barefoot running info.

Thanks for the request! We’re planning on stopping in the Norman/Oklahoma City area late September. As we get closer to September, we’ll see if we can squeeze in an extra stop closer to your area.

  10. Indiana has a great trail running community, including the Tecumseh Trail Marathon in December. I’d love to attend a clinic if you’re out this way.

  14. Asheville NC? Please!

Posted by David Propst | March 3, 2010, 8:48 pm
  15. Hi,

We’d love to go to Asheville. However, at present, we don’t have Asheville down, but we’re spending at least 4 days in the state. So far we have Durham, Raleigh and Greensboro down before heading to Myrtle beach and points south. While we don’t have plans to visit Asheville on this trip, if there’s a large barefoot community looking to have us speak, we’ll see if there’s a way.

  16. I will try to make it to one of the Boulder days. Are you planning any stops in Denver metro? I live in Parker and just started up trying out the VFFs.

  17. Hey guys-

Once it gets closer, I can plan a gathering of our local barefoot runners around Grand Rapids, MI. By summer, we’ll have a strong local following. I know there will be significant interest in your book. We’ll have Ken Bob here around the same time, so the barefoot buzz should be peaking.

  21. Any chance of stopping in Boston?

Posted by Brian Milner | March 10, 2010, 4:15 pm
  22. Just found you on Facebook (thanks to your ad!). I’m in Waterville, Maine, which is halfway between Portland and Bangor.
Do you need a minimum number of interested people to justify a stop in a given location?

If you need a business or club to host you, Maine Running Company in Portland and Brunswick would probably do it.

  30. You are not forgotten! We both love Alaska, and Jessie spent a summer in Skagway. We’d love to visit, but would have to look at arranging talks or clinics where we can fly in.

  36. What are the where/when details of the 23 April/24 April Vegas clinics?

    Posted by Lance | April 2, 2010, 4:02 am
  37. As it stands so far we will have a talk at the Boca Park REI on the 23rd, a tentative clinic at the Las Vegas Mall on the 24th, and a talk at the Henderson REI also on April 24th.

More details as they become available. Hope to see you there!

    Posted by Admin | April 2, 2010, 9:24 pm
  38. Yes! We’ll be in Richmond on June 8th. Would be great to see you there!

    Posted by Admin | April 2, 2010, 9:26 pm
  39. I am registered for the REI Henderson (NV) 6p Saturday 24 April, but I work evenings on a schedule w/ frequent last-minute changes. Obviously, I hope to make it.

As insurance, I am also interested in that “tentative clinic at the Las Vegas Mall,” which sounds like a daytime event. But I can tell you, of the several malls here, none of them are known as the “Las Vegas Mall.” I’ll be sure to check back at this thread that week to see if that clinic is happening, and for it’s specific location. — Thank you.
